South Australian French Teachers’ Association Awards for Excellence
SAFTA is proud to announce once again the SAFTA Awards for Excellence. These awards will recognise French teachers in South Australia who go beyond their usual teaching duties. These teachers will be recognised by their efforts to promote the positive aspects of pays francophones, their contribution to the teaching profession through their professional learning strategies, their sharing of ideas and for being positive role models for the teaching and learning of French.
French teachers will be acknowledged by SAFTA for their outstanding contribution and efforts in the field of teaching French. The awards will be presented in term 4 2010 to coincide with CEASA World Teachers’ Day celebrations. Teachers who are a member of SAFTA from any education sector, who are teaching French at any year level and are at any stage of their career are encouraged to apply.
The SAFTA Awards for Excellence will be presented in three categories:
SAFTA Award for Excellence: Educational theory and practice
The SAFTA award for excellence in educational theory and practice will be awarded to a teacher who engages with current theories of education, who models and promotes inclusive teaching practice and who utilises effective teaching practices which improve learning outcomes for all students. Throughout their teaching career the teacher has demonstrated excellence, ingenuity, creativity and diversity in the delivery of French.
SAFTA Award for Excellence: Promotion of inter-cultural understandings
The SAFTA award for excellence in the promotion of inter-cultural understandings will be awarded to a teacher who has demonstrated outstanding efforts in developing inter-cultural understandings in their students. This teacher has demonstrated ongoing commitment to promoting school/community awareness of the French speaking world, developing links with French speakers both here and overseas, and encouraging reflection about languages and cultures.
SAFTA Award for Excellence: Development of strong professional relationships and contribution to the French teaching community.
The French award for excellence in developing strong professional relationships and contribution to the French teaching community, will be awarded to a teacher who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the French teaching community by establishing and/or maintaining professional relationships with other French language teachers. This teacher is involved in committees, working groups or other networks which assist colleagues in the teaching of French in South Australia.
Terms and conditions:
-Teachers may nominate themselves or be nominated (with consent) by another educator.
-Nominees must be currently working as a teacher of French and be a financial member of SAFTA.
-Nominees are invited to submit a separate application for each category of the award.
-All nominees are to provide the name of one referee in their application.
-Nominees are asked to use the application form which can be downloaded from the SAFTA website: http://www.safta.org.au
-Supporting materials can be included, but must be attached to the application and clearly labelled with the applicant’s name and contact details. A stamped self-addressed envelope should be enclosed for the return of these supporting materials.

-The Award recipients will be asked for permission to publish photographs, names and school contact details on the SAFTA website and to allow photographs to be used for future promotion of this award.

Application process post submission:
-Each application will be assessed individually and recommendations made on merit, by a panel appointed by SAFTA.
-The decision of the panel will be final and no further discussion will be entered into.
-Presentations will take place at a function organised by CEASA to celebrate World Teachers Day and in conjunction with a wide range of teaching associations.
