Dear French Teachers of Year 6 or 7 students,
SAFTA invites you to enter your students for the Year 6 or 7 Prize for French. Only one of these year levels from each school can be entered in this competition. The best Year 6 or 7 student from each nominating school will receive a prize at the Distribution des Prix on Wednesday 25th October. As in previous years, we are asking students to complete a small task in order to be eligible for the prize, on the principle of the Alliance Française Year 10, 11 and 12 tests, but aimed of course at Year 6 or 7 level.
The task is for students in your Year 6 or 7 French classes to write a brief letter about themselves, addressed to Madame la Présidente de la SAFTA.
· Maximum of 100 words
· The letter is to be hand written and done during one or two French lessons. (Spend no more than 1 hour in total on the task)
· Students can reference classroom materials such as dictionaries, vocab posters and their exercise books, but NO COMPUTER ASSISTANCE, please.
· Minimal teacher assistance please.
· The content of the letter is to be based on the students’ own experience in the language, eg a description of themselves, their interests (sports, food, friends, family etc.).
Select the best 5 letters from your class and forward them to SAFTA by Wednesday, 27th SEPTEMBER. Address: SAFTA, c/- Kathy Hatzimanolis, Trinity College South, PO Box 131 Gawler, SA 5118, or email: hatzimka@trinity.sa.edu.au. Please make sure your entries reach us by this date, as the timeline for judging is tight.
SAFTA will award a prize to the student judged the best in each participating school. Students’ work will not be compared between schools. Results will reach you at the start of Term 4 and will include invitations for you and your students to attend the Distribution des Prix.
We hope you will take this opportunity to recognize the achievements of your students at the end of their primary years of French, or, for those in a secondary setting, to recognize the achievements of your students as they begin their French studies.
