Chers Membres de la SAFTA /Chers Professeurs de français

Tout d’abord, je vous souhaite de la part du Comité de la SAFTA une bonne et heureuse année 2020.

I hope that you and your loved ones were able to stay safe from the bushfires across our country. Our thoughts are with those who have been affected.

I write, firstly, to invite you to attend our Annual General Meeting that will take place at the Alliance Française, 319 Young Street, on Tuesday 11 February. Come share a drink, nibbles and a chat with colleagues from 5.45pm.Proceedings will begin at 6pm. We would love to see as many of you as possible. Please take this opportunity to meet and catch up with French teaching colleagues. For those considering becoming a part of the committee, we are always keen for new ideas and perspectives. Our meetings are friendly, productive and enjoyable. This year we are intending to trial using Zoom (an online video-conferencing program) to enable those who cannot physically attend a meeting to still be able to participate. So, if you would like to have a more active role in your association but find attending evening meetings in Adelaide an impossibility, this need no longer prevent you from joining the SAFTA committee! Please fill in and return to me the nomination form accompanying this email.

The second very exciting news to share with you is our conference for 2020: New Encounters//Nouvelles Rencontres, which will be held on Saturday 16 May. We have been fortunate to secure Michel Boiron, Director General of Cavilam, Vichy as guest speaker for this event. M Boiron has twice presented at national conferences for teachers of French in Australia in the past 4-5 years, and his keynote sessions and workshops were on both occasions universally acclaimed as highlights of the event. This is a real coup for SAFTA to bring a speaker and motivator of such international stature to South Australia.

In addition, SAFTA has been successful in acquiring a PL2 grant from Educators SA to enable us to run a half day workshop designated specially for country teachers of French on the afternoon of Friday 15 May, prior to the conference. Michel Boiron will also work with teachers during this time. We are able to support eight teachers from the country with TRT release and a contribution towards travel expenses to attend this workshop at no cost. More information to follow later. In the meantime, please mark these dates in your calendar.

Finally, the Alliance Française French Film Festival will launch with their special pre-screening event for French teachers on Monday 10 February. Below is the kind invitation from Raphaëlle Delaunay, director of the AF Adelaide.  Follow the link to RSVP.

Dates to remember:

  • Mon 10 February – AFFF Teachers’ screening
  • Tues 11 February – SAFTA AGM
  • Friday 15 May – Country teachers’ workshop
  • Friday 15 May – pre-conference dinner
  • Sat 16 May – SAFTA conference

A more complete calendar will be sent later.

If you know a colleague teaching French this year who is not on our mailing list, please feel free to forward this email to them and to invite them to make contact.

De belles réussites en 2020! J’attends avec plaisir de vous retrouver à notre Assemblée Générale, ou à une de nos manifestations du premier trimestre.

Bien cordialement
